BARDSTOWN, Ky. -- Union College freshman Helen Weber scored the game winner in the 83rd minute, as the Lady Bulldogs pulled out an exciting 1-0 over St. Catharine in NAIA women's soccer action on Tuesday night. The match was played at Nelson County High School.

With the victory, Union moved to 3-2 on the season, while St. Catharine dropped to 1-3 with the defeat.

In the first half, Union was very aggressive on the offensive end, striking 14 total shots. St. Catharine's, however, was strong on the defensive end, and stopped each Union scoring chance as the game went into the half scoreless.

It was more of the same for Union in the second half, and as the match entered the 80th minute, both teams had failed to score.

It was then, with seven minutes left in regulation, Weber (Marburg, Germany) scored the game winner. The goal, which was set up by a Stephanie Cagle (Independence, Ky.) pass, was the sixth of the season for the freshman, and her second game winner of the year. Cagle was credited with an assist on the play, which was her second.

From here, Union hung on to notch their first road, and shutout win of the season. Lady Bulldog goalie Stephanie Burton (Queensland, Australia) played all 90 minutes of regulation play in between the pipes, and earned the first shutout of her career in the victory.

Union returns to the pitch on Saturday when they host Reinhardt in the team's AAC season opener. Kickoff at Burch/Nau Field is set for 2 p.m.
