BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- Union College's Sofie Jorgensen scored twice in her UC debut, while goalie Stephanie Burton made 14 saves, to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 5-3 win over Georgetown (Ky.) in NAIA women's soccer action on Saturday at Burch/Nau Field.

With the win, Union improved to 2-1 on the year, while Georgetown dropped to 1-1 with the loss.

In the first half, Georgetown out shot Union 10-5, but the Lady Bulldogs converted on one of their lone opportunities of the first 45 minutes.

In the 18th minute, senior Nikki Jeck (Richmond, Ky.) scored her second goal of the season off a Casey Camargo (Lexington, Ky.) cross from three yards out, giving Union a 1-0 lead. It was all the Lady Bulldogs would need in the first half to take a lead into the locker room, as Burton (Queensland, Australia) stopped shot after shot in net, recording seven saves in the first half.

In the second half, Union pulled away from Georgetown early on.

In the 58th minute, and after Georgetown's goalie was carded in in the box, Jorgensen (Oksbol, Ribe, Denmark) scored her first goal of the day on a successful penalty kick, making it 2-0 Union. Five minutes later, Helen Weber (Marburg, Germany) scored her fifth goal of the young season off a deflection to make it 3-0.

About a minute later, the Union lead was extended to 4-0 after a Georgetown defender put a shot into her own net. Georgetown, however, added back-to-back goals over the next couple of minutes to make it 4-2.

Jorgensen put the match away in the 80th minute when she scored from 10 yards out on a free kick to give the Lady Bulldogs a three goal lead. Georgetown scored the game's final goal in the 88th minute, as Anna Ayers added her second goal of the afternoon to record the final tally.

Overall, Georgetown -despite losing by two goals - out shot the Lady Bulldogs 22-15, and held a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks. Burton made seven more saves in the second half to record her final total of 14 for the afternoon

The Lady Bulldogs return to the pitch Tuesday night when they travel to Campbellsville. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
