WILMORE, Ky. – The Union College men’s 200-yard freestyle relay team earned a NAIA Swimming National Championship qualifying mark at the Asbury (Ky.) College.

The group of Jeremiah Back (Flatgap, Ky.), Karl Smith (Lexington, Ky.), Adam Woodard (Hopkinsville, Ky.) and Michael Viscardi (Marietta, Ga.) finished with a time of one minute and 36.45 seconds to qualify for the national championship.

“It was a very fast meet and all teams were looking really strong,” Union coach Rafael Forti said. “We were able to swim faster than in our previous meet, obtaining new cuts, team records, and personal bests.”

Viscardi also won the 100 breaststroke by 0.03 seconds after he finished with a 1:03.52 to lower his school record from 1:04.13

The Bulldogs (0-3 overall) lost to Asbury 78-17 and also suffered a 90-15 setback against Transylvania (Ky.) College in the meet.

Union will host Eastern Kentucky University and Milligan (Tenn.) College Saturday for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
