CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - No. 10 Union fell short of its bid to qualify directly for the NAIA National Championship Tournament as the Bulldogs lost 5-3 to Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in the NAIA Qualifying Tournament championship game on Saturday.

The loss snapped Union's seven-match win streak, putting its record at 17-5 overall.

While Union did not win the direct qualifier, the Bulldogs still can earn one of the 11 at-large bids.

In doubles play, Lindsey Wilson took two of the three matches by the identical score of 8-4. Bartos Micher (Junginen, Germany) and Fredrik Graaner (Stavanger, Norway) won their doubles match by a score of 8-1.

Graaner won his singles match 6-3, 6-2, while Gilles Cornelius (Wijnegem, Belgium) was victorious in his match by a count of 6-0, 6-1. Yet, Lindsey Wilson won three of the other four singles matches to pull out the 5-3 decision.

Union advanced to the championship match by defeating Campbellsville (Ky.) 5-1.

The Bulldogs took two of the three doubles matches. Nicolas Ernst (Rietheim, Germany) and Pierre Vernin (Le Coteau, France) narrowly pulled out their match by a score of 9-8 (7-5). Yvon Haessig (Vancouver, Canada) and Cornelius notched an 8-4 decision in their match.

Haessig, Micher and Cornelius each won their singles matches to wrap up the victory.
