BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- Union men's track & field's John Luther was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference's men's field athlete of the week the league announced on Monday. This marks the third time on the outdoor season that Luther has earned the award.

Luther (Calhoun, Ga.), a freshman, broke school records in two events over the weekend at the Johnson City Invitational. He captured the shot put with a final throw of 45 feet, 9.25 inches, then placed second in the discus with a final effort of 134 feet, 11 inches.

Luther and the rest of the Bulldogs return to action on Thursday when they take part in the 2011 AAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Johnson City, Tenn.
