JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Union College track & field squad registered some solid individual performances at the Johnson City Invitational, which was held the last two days at Sidney Smallwood Track.

For the men, several Bulldog athletes registered top performances at the meet. The first was freshman Jaquan Holland, who placed first in two events, one on the track and one in the field. Holland won the 100m dash for the fourth straight week at an event, crossing the finish line in 11.05, then captured the long jump, finishing with a final mark of 21 feet, 8.25 inches.

Next was Andrew Johnston, who won the pole vault for the second straight meet with a clearance of 12 feet, 5.50 inches. Freshman John Luther rounded out the Bulldog athletes to win an event at the meet, as he captured the shot put with a final throw of 45 feet, 9.25 inches, which was a new school record in the event. Luther also placed second in the discus with a final effort of 134 feet, 11 inches, which was also a new school record. The other performances of note for the men was by Issac Kangogo, who finished sixth in both the 1500 and 5000 meter runs, crossing the finish line in the 1500 in 4;13.21, while finishing in 16:10.38 in the 5000.

On the women's side, Brittany Rutherford finished fourth overall in the 100m dash with a time of 15.29, while Lavin Hadley placed fourth in the 400m (1:02.28). Maddie Peterson took part in two field events at the meet, finishing eighth in the shot put (27 feet, 8 inches) and fifth in the discus (95 feet, 6 inches).

Union returns to action on Thursday when they take part in the 2011 AAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will also take place in Johnson City.
