WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- The Union College men's and women's track & field teams participated at the 2011 University of the Cumberlands Invitational, which was held at James H. Taylor Stadium. Overall, the men's team finished eighth overall, while the women's team placed 13th.

On the day, the Union men were once again led on freshman sprinter Jaquan Holland, who swept both the 100 and 200 meter dashes, marking the third straight week he has done so at a meet for the Bulldogs.

In the 100m, Holland crossed the finish line in 10.80 to take the win, narrowly defeating his nearest competitor by one-tenth of a second. In the 200m, he finished in 21.92, winning by a much larger margin (almost a second). In other action on the day for the men on the track, Steven Carron finished fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 50.80.

In the field events, Andrew Johnston finished second in the pole vault with a clearance of 12 feet, 11.50 inches. Johnston was joined in the top five in the pole vault by Zach Croley, who had a finished with a clearance of 11 feet, 11.75 inches to finish in a tie for fifth overall in the event. Croley also participated in the triple jump, finishing fifth overall with a mark of 36 feet, 5.79 inches.

In the final event of note for the men, the shot put, freshman John Luther finished fourth overall with throw of 45 feet, 2.91 inches, which is a new school record. Luther also placed ninth in the discus, finishing with a throw of 116 feet, 5.53 inches.

For the women, Naudine Coulson finished sixth in the 100m dash with a time of 13.10, then placed fifth in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:09.49. The only Lady Bulldog to take part in field events on the day day was Maddie Peterson, who finished 14th in the shot put and 15th in the discus.

Union returns to the track on Wednesday when they take part in the University of Tennessee Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville.
