ATHENS, Tenn. - The Union women's tennis team lost its Appalachian Athletic Conference opener, suffering a 5-2 loss at Tennessee Wesleyan on Monday.

The match was halted with two singles matches yet to be played due to darkness and rain.

The loss drops Union to 0-7 overall and 0-1 in the AAC, while Tennessee Wesleyan is now 3-9 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Union lost two of the three doubles matches. Meredith Dambrus (Louisville, Ky.) Marah Rice (Scottsville, Ky.) teamed up for an 8-6 win over Allie Smith and Spencer Creekmore.

Diane Proteau scored the Lady Bulldogs' lone singles win with a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) decision over Beatriz Signori.

Union returns to action Saturday at 2 p.m. when it plays host to Milligan (Tenn.) in another AAC showdown.
