ASHEVILLE, N.C. - For the second week in a row, Pierre Vernin of Union is the Appalachian Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

The Le Coteau, France, native helped Union to a 2-1 week last week with the only loss coming against Northwest Missouri State, the 19th-ranked team in NCAA Division II.

Vernin went 3-0 in singles play last week as Union went on the road to take on Hastings (Neb.) and two NCAA Division II schools in Nebraska-Omaha and Northwest Missouri State. He went 2-1 in doubles play with the loss coming against the No. 25 doubles pair in NCAA Division II from Northwest Missouri State in an 8-6 decision. In the other doubles matches, he and partner Nicolas Ernst posted 8-3 and 8-1 win over Hastings and Nebraska-Omaha's No. 1 doubles duos.

Vernin's most impressive singles win came against Northwest Missouri State as he posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over their No. 3 singles player.

On the season, Vernin is 7-6 in singles play and 9-5 doubles action.

Union is 10-4 on the season.
