BARBOURVILLE, Ky. --
Several members of the Union men's and women's swimming teams rank near the top in several events in this week's NAIA Top Times Lists. The list is the final one of the 2010-11 swimming season.
On the women's side, Renata Cabral
leads Union in the rankings, ranking fifth in the 100-free (52.39), seventh in the 200-free (1:55.83), 12th in the 100-fly (59.51) and 15th in the 50-free (24.77).
Other Lady Bulldogs ranked include Molly Fittro
, who is 10th in the 1650-free (18:06.75), 16th in the 500-free (5:16.47), 21st in the 200-free (1:58.17) and 23rd in the 1000-free (11:15.31), along with Callie Harrigan
, who's 13th in the 100-free (53.84), 15th in the 100-back (1:00.76) and 23rd in the 50-free (25.00). The final Lady Bulldogs to appear in the rankings is Tamsin Petersen
, who is 16th in the 200-fly (2:16.31) and 21st in the 400-IM (4:48.21)
In women's relay events, Union has the second best time in the 800-free relay in 7:53.26, the fifth best mark in the 400-free relay (3:37.77), the eighth best time in the 200-free relay (1:41.07), and the 12th best time in both the 200-medley relay (1:55.90) and the in the 400-medley relay (4:08.85).
For the men individually, Kyle Newhouse
is eighth in the 1650-free (16:36.36) and 25th in both the 500-free (4:48.79) and the 200-free (1:44.78), while Edward Malick
is also eighth in the 200-breast (2:08.41) and 14th in the 100-breast (58.90). Gregory Penny
ranks in two events as well, ranking 15th in the 200-breast (2:11.57) and 20th in the 100-breast (59.75), while Matthew Johnson
is 17th in the 1650-free (16:54.10) and Luis Ambrosio
is 23rd in the 200-breast (2:14.65).
In relay events, Union is 9th nationally in the 800-free relay (7:16.86), 200-medley relay (1:38.63) and the 200-free relay (1:29.03). The Bulldogs are 11th in two other events, the 400-free relay (3:18.73) and 400-medley relay (3:38.08).
Union returns to action at the NAIA National Swimming and Diving Championships, which begin on March 2nd. The event will be held in St. Peters, Mo. and run through Mar. 5th.
