BARBOURVILLE, Ky.  -- Union interim women's soccer coach Camila Mendes announced that Courtney Hullender, a native of Monroe, N.C., has signed a letter of intent to join the Lady Bulldog program this fall.

"Courtney is going to add a lot to our program, not just on the field, but off it as she is a great student," said Mendes. "She plays defense, but she is also able to play in the midfield. She reads the game very well, has a very good technique and is strong in winning balls in the air."

Hullender has prepped at Porter Ridge High School, where in 2010 she led the Pirates to a County Conference Championship and has been the team's captain since her freshman year. She has played on several club teams, including the USL Super 20 - MUFC in 2009 and the MUFC U-18 Premier team in 2010. Hullender has also volunteered for the Monroe Youth Soccer Association, where she is currently an assistant coach on a U-10 girls squad.

Courtney, the daughter of Ben and Christine Hullender, plans to major in either Pre-Med or Physical Therapy at Union.
