MONTREAT, N.C. - Junior Rebecca Gray recorded a double-double and senior Wendi Messer poured in a game-high 27 points, but it was not enough as No. 21 Union fell 85-82 to host Montreat (N.C.) Saturday in Appalachian Athletic Conference play.

The loss drops Union to 13-6 overall and 3-1 in the AAC, while Montreat improves to 16-1 overall and 3-1 in league play.

Messer (Barbourville, Ky.) paced the Lady Bulldogs with 27 points, and Gray (Georgetown, Ky.) had 26 points and 11 rebounds. No other Lady Bulldog scored in double figures.

Union trailed 42-40 at the half, and Montreat outscored the Lady Bulldogs 42-42 in the second half en route to the three-point win.

The Lady Bulldogs return home Wednesday for a conference tilt against Milligan (Tenn.). Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
