BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union used a strong second half to propel itself to an 104-76 victory over visiting Alice Lloyd (Ky.) in the Union College Classic Saturday as five Lady Bulldogs scored in double figures.

The Lady Bulldogs (4-1 overall) had an all-around good shooting night as they made 50.8 percent (32 of 63 shots) from the field, 51.9 percent (14 of 27) of their 3-pointers and 83.9 percent (26 of 31) from the foul line. Conversely, Alice Lloyd hit just 29-of-64 shots (45.3 percent) from the floor and went 12-for-22 (54.5 percent) from the charity stripe.

Wendi Messer (Barbourville, Ky.) led all scorers with 21 points with Rebecca Gray (Georgetown, Ky.) knocking in 14 points in only 14 minutes of action. Union also got 13 points from Kara Pile (Fairdale, Ky.) as well as 11 from Courtney Thomas (Glasgow, Ky.) and 10 from Amber Taylor (Clinton, Tenn.).

Up 55-45 at the half, the Lady Bulldogs accounted for 26 of the first 34 points of the period to open up an 81-54 cushion with 10:03 to play. Union led by as much as 32 points en route to the 104-76 decision.

Nicole Lutes came off the bench to lead Alice Lloyd (1-3 overall) with 17 points, while Ariel Nickell chipped in 13 points. Chelsee Jarrell helped out with 11 points.

The Lady Bulldogs won the battle on the boards, outrebounding the Lady Eagles 40-35. Messer and Pile led Union with six rebounds each.

Union returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Asbury (Ky.) at 7 p.m.
