GEORGETOWN, Ky. - Junior Rebecca Gray and senior Capri Savage teamed up to net 49 points in leading Union to a 91-78 season-opening win over Midway (Ky.) at the Georgetown (Ky.) College Habitat for Humanity Classic on Friday.

Gray (Georgetown, Ky.) hit 8-of-10 shots from the field and was 8-for-10 at the foul line in scoring 26 points in her Lady Bulldog debut. Meanwhile, Savage (Orofino, Idaho) scored a career-high 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Her previous career high was 16.

Midway (1-1 overall) hit 51.5 percent in the first half, but Union owned a 47-37 lead at the break. The Eagles tried to stay with the Lady Bulldogs in the second half, yet Union held on to the double-digit lead en route to the 91-78 decision.

Union finished the game making 41.2 percent (28-of-68 shots) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs connected on 27-of-34 free throws (79.4 percent). After Gray and Savage, Kara Pile (Fairdale, Ky.) added 14 points with Wendi Messer (Barbourville, Ky.) chipped in 12.

Midway dominated the glass, outrebounding Union 50-33. Kayla Shull paced the Eagles with 22 points.

Union (1-0 overall) returns to action Saturday when it takes on host Georgetown at 4 p.m.
