BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union flexed its muscles Saturday as it swept Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Bluefield (Va.) and Indiana Southeast to extend its win streak to three.

Union won its opener against Bluefield in convincing manner with a 25-14, 25-8, 25-14 decision. The Lady Bulldogs then downed IU-Southeast 25-20, 25-17, 25-17.

IU-Southeast defeated Bluefield 25-10, 25-14, 25-13.

With the wins, Union improves to 18-12 overall and 10-3 in the AAC.

In the first set against Bluefield, Union scored the first eight points and never looked back. The Lady Bulldogs led by as much as 23-10 en route to the 25-14 outcome.

Bluefield looked as if it would put up a fight as the Lady Rams (6-22 overall, 1-12 AAC) only trailed 7-4 early on. However, Union accounted for 18 of the final 22 points in recording the 25-8 second-set victory.

The Lady Rams again kept things close in the third set, down 9-8 at one point. But Union closed the set on a 16-6 rally to win 25-14 and sweep the match.

Union had 44 kills, hit .333 and posted eight total blocks. Senior Maddie Peterson (Soda Springs, Idaho) led Union with nine kills, while Karina Ramos (Presidente, Brazil) and Amelia Cantrell (Georgetown, Ky.) each had seven.

Monica Moreland (Louisville, Ky.) recorded 24 assists, seven digs and four service aces, while Kalia Yasak (Kula, Hawaii) posted 19 assists. Amanda Silva (Londrina, Brazil) recorded 17 digs and two aces. Chelsea Kirschman (Ponte Verda, Fla.) notched two solo blocks as well as a block assist.

Against IU-Southeast, Ramos delivered a team-high 13 kills, two solo blocks and three assisted blocks as Union posted the 3-0 sweep.

The first set was tight throughout and was tied at 18-18 when Union used a 5-0 surge to grab a 23-18 edge en route to the 25-20 decision.

IU-Southeast led by as much as 11-8 in the second set, but the Lady Bulldogs kept battling. Tied at 16-16, Union closed the frame on a 9-1 run to take the 25-17 win for a 2-0 lead in the match.

Tied at 11-11 in the third set, Union began to break away and built a 21-14 cushion. The Lady Bulldogs accounted for four of the final seven points in taking the set 25-17 and the match 3-0.

Peterson and Lauren McMillan (Corbin, Ky.) each posted seven kills and three assisted blocks in the win. In all, Union posted 43 kills and nine total blocks.

Moreland had 21 assists, while Yasak registered 17 helpers and eight digs. Silva notched 30 digs with Brooke Porter (Louisville, Ky.) chipped in 11 digs and two service aces.

Union will close out the regular season Saturday at Montreat (N.C.) when it takes part in a tri-match. The Lady Bulldogs will face Montreat in AAC action at 1 p.m. before facing Southern Wesleyan at 3 p.m. in non-conference play.
