BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Armed with a balanced net attack, Union dispatched visiting Virginia Intermont in a 3-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference sweep Tuesday.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 14-10 overall and 7-1 in conference play thanks to the 25-11, 25-14, 25-21 victory. The Lady Cobras fell to 7-14 overall and 2-9 in the AAC.

Union controlled the net with 36 kills and six total blocks, while Virginia Intermont registered just 15 kills and three blocks. The Lady Bulldogs posted a respectable .250 hitting percentage, but the Lady Cobras had a minus-0.018 hitting percentage thanks to 17 attack errors.

Cat Neumann (Louisville, Ky.) led Union with seven kills, while Karina Ramos (Presidente, Brazil) had a solid all-around game with five kills, three total blocks and two service aces. Caity Merritt (Louisville, Ky.) and Lauren McMillian (Corbin, Ky.) each delivered five kills with Merritt posting a .364 hitting percentage and McMillian a .308 hitting percentage.

In the first set, Union raced out to an 11-3 lead and cruised to the 25-11 decision. Virginia Intermont cut the margin to six a handful of times, but Union closed the frame out on a 12-4 run in sealing the 14-point outcome.

Virginia Intermont put up more of a fight in the second set, staying within five late. However, the Lady Bulldogs used an 8-3 run to take the frame 25-15 and a 2-0 advantage in the match.

Union had a hard time closing out the match as Virginia Intermont would not go away in the third set. The Lady Cobras kept within one or two points before eventually grabbing an 18-17 lead. Union regrouped and reeled off eight of the final 11 points to win the set 25-21 and the match 3-0.

Amanda Silva (Londrina, Brazil) recorded 33 digs in the win for Union, while Kalia Yasek (Kula, Hawaii) and Monica Moreland (Louisville, Ky.) helped out with 17 and 13 assists, respectively.

For Virginia Intermont, Tiffany Vu led the way with five kills with Brandi Blessing coming up with 10 digs.

Union returns to action Thursday when it pays Bluefield (Va.) a visit in another AAC match. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
