BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -Union used a dominating effort on both sides of the pitch to shutout visiting Bluefield (Va.) Saturday afternoon 5-0 in Appalachian Athletic Conference action at Burch/Nau Field.

With the win, Union improved to 6-6 overall on the year, 2-1 in the AAC, while Bluefield fell to 3-7-1, 0-3 in the AAC.

The Lady Bulldogs got off to a fast start in the match, scoring three goals within the first 20 minutes of the contest. Union got on the board in the 10th minute when Ashley Hall (Hazard, Ky.) scored off a deflection from a Bluefield defender. Five and a half minutes later, Stephanie Cagle (Independence, Ky.) made the score 2-0 after finding the back of the net off a Hall pass.

Almost two minutes later, Renata Peixoto (Brasilia, Brazil) scored to make it 3-0. The first half scoring barrage ended in the 40th minute, when Jennifer Sckirl (Edmonton, Canada) scored making the tally at the half 4-0 in favor of Union. Hall was credited with an assist on the play.

In the half, Union outshot Bluefield 13-1, while holding a decisive 4-0 edge in corner kicks.

In the second half, Union continued their domination, outshooting the Lady Rams 12-1 in the period. In the 74th minute, Hall ended her banner day with her second goal of the afternoon off a shot deflection.

Overall, Hall led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with two goals, two assists and eight shots (three of which were on goal). In net, Patricia Nardy (Sao Paulo, Brazil) notched a shutout win after recording a save.

Union returns to the pitch on Wednesday when they host Bryan (Tenn.) at Burch/Nau Field beginning at 2 p.m.
