BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union made short work of visiting Reinhardt (Ga.) Saturday, winning its Appalachian Athletic Conference opener in a convincing 3-0 sweep.

The Lady Bulldogs won by the counts of 25-6, 25-17, 25-14 to improve to 4-3 overall 1-0 in conference play. The loss dropped Reinhardt to 5-1 overall and 0-1 in the AAC.

Union set the tone early with the 25-6 decision in the first set. Vitoria Oliveria (Sao Paulo, Brazil) hammered home four of her 10 kills in the first set, and the Lady Bulldogs registered three total blocks.

Oliveria and Caity Merritt (Abingdon, Va.) each had three kills in the 25-17 second set win. Chelsea Kirschman (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) posted two of her three solo blocks in the frame as well.

In the third set, Cat Neumann (Louisville, Ky.) had three kills, and Merritt chipped in a solo block as Union sealed the victory with the 25-14 decision.

Making her Lady Bulldog debut, junior Kalia Yasak (Kula, Hawaii) registered a team-high 19 assists and six service aces. Monica Moreland (Louisville, Ky.) had 15 assists, while Amanda Silva (Londrina, Brazil) added 15 digs and two aces.

In addition to the solo blocks, Kirschman contributed five kills.

Union returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Tennessee Wesleyan at 6:30 p.m. in another AAC affair.
