DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - A pair of five-run innings put Union behind the eight-ball early on as host and top-seeded Embry-Riddle (Fla.) won 12-0 Tuesday in the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round.

The loss drops Union to 39-17 overall, while Embry-Riddle improves to 42-16 on the year.

The Bulldogs will next face the St. Thomas (Fla.)/Faulkner (Ala.) winner at 6 p.m. Wednesday. St. Thomas and Faulkner square off Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Embry-Riddle will play Rio Grande (Ohio) at 2 p.m. in the winners' bracket finale.

The Eagles scored five runs in the first and five more in the second in building a 10-0 lead. Steve Sabins lined six RBIs during the two five-run rallies.

Embry-Riddle added a run in the fifth and in the eighth to make it 12-0.

Union finished with only four hits. Josh Longbrake (St. Cloud, Fla.) had two, going 2-for-4 with a double.

For the Eagles, Sabins went 2-for-4 with two doubles and six driven in, while Matt Tomaszewski finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
