KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The postponed Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament first round contest between Union and Montreat finished up early this morning, as the No. 6 seed Lady Bulldogs finished the upset of the No. 3 seed Lady Cavaliers, 5-2.

Union jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning off a pair of RBI hits from Gina Loflin (Salisbury, N.C.) and Lee Davis (Lexington, Ky.).

Montreat tied the contest, 2-2, in the bottom of the fifth inning with a two out single to right field. The Lady Bulldog's did not waste any time reclaiming the lead, pushing across three runs in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 5-2.

Abby Sears (London, Ky.) started the action in the sixth inning with a lead-off double to right center. From there the Lady Bulldogs used two more hits and a fielding error to push across the runs.

The last inning, of the game started yesterday, got underway at 10:00 a.m. and was over before the dew could evaporate off the outfield grass. The Lady Bulldogs went quietly as they were retired in order to end the top of the seventh. Montreat seemed poised to mount a comeback, but Driver (10-7) had other ideas, retiring the first two batters and then striking out Nicole Denney to end the game.

With the win Union advances in the winners bracket to play the late night game against the winner of today's 11 o'clock game between No. 7 seed UVA-Wise and No. 2 seed Milligan College.

First pitch for the Lady Bulldog's next game is slated for 7:00 p.m.
