On the signing of the local standout, head coach Sean Gillespie stated, "I am very happy to have Madison Johnson be the first official freshmen commitment in my first recruiting class at Union. We are getting a player that has a high level of passion and drive for the game. We have been fortunate to have him commit to being a part of the Bulldog family."

Gillespie also commented on the direction of the program. "We are going to build this program with freshmen players and it is great for our local community to see one of its own play right in their backyard."
