BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - No. 17 Union split a doubleheader with No. 23 Taylor (Ind.) as the Bulldogs took the first game 4-2, while the Trojans claimed the second game 8-4 at Jerry Carey Stadium Wednesday.

With the results Union moves to 22-7 (10-1 AAC) while Taylor now sits at 20-7 (4-0 MCC) on the season.

Union got off to a quick start in game one, plating three in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. Brandon Hedrick (Corbin, Ky.) started the early offensive assault, roping an RBI double off the wall in left center, scoring Ryan Satterlee (Youngstown, Ohio). Donnie Popham (Louisville, Ky.) followed the Hedrick double with a two-RBI single to center, plating freshman Tyler Brake (Burlington, Ky.) and Brandon Hedrick to claim to extend the early lead.

The Bulldogs pushed the lead to 4-0 in the second inning when Tyler Martin (Corbin, Ky.) crossed the dish on a Ryan Satterlee sacrifice fly to left field.

The Taylor Trojans scratched across its first run of the day in the top of the third frame when Chuck Weaver scored on an errant pick-off attempt by Jacob Scalf (Barbourville, Ky.) on Luke Hofsommer at first base, cutting the Bulldog lead to 4-1.

The Trojans drew even closer in the top of the sixth inning when Ryne Otis hit a high fly ball to center that managed to carry over the fence for a solo homerun, making the score 4-2.

The scored stayed the same into the top of the seventh when Koby Hearn (Paris, Ky.) toed the rubber and held the Trojans at bay for the 4-2 win.

Earning the win for Union was Jacob Scalf (2-1) as he tossed three and two-thirds innings, giving up four hits and one earned run while fanning two Trojans. Koby Hearn notched his third save for his efforts at the end of the contest.

Ryan Satterlee went 2-for-2 in the tilt with an RBI, a run scored and two steals to lead Union offensively. Donnie Popham recorded two RBI's to go along with his 1-for-3 performance from the dish while Demetrius Davis (Marietta, Ga.) tallied two hits for the Bulldogs.

The win extended Union's winning streak to 16 straight contests.

Taylor wasted no time claiming the lead in the second game as Ryne Otis ripped an RBI triple to right center to put the Trojans up 1-0 after the first inning.

Union answered the Taylor run with a tally of its own in the bottom of the first inning after Ryan Satterlee belted a one-out double to left center, stole third base and scored on a Brian Mouton (Oakland, Calif.) single to center field.

The Trojans blew the game open in the third and fourth innings, scoring four runs in the two frames. Highlighting the offensive outburst for Taylor was a two-RBI double to deep center field off the bat of Nate Hillery in the third inning and an RBI single to right field from Michael Kraynak in the fourth inning to put the Trojans up 5-1.

The Bulldogs answered back in the bottom of the fourth when Brian Mouton crossed the plate on a Brandon Hedrick groundout to the pitcher, cutting the Trojans lead to 5-2.

Taylor regained its four-run lead in the top of the fifth when Ryne Otis scored from first base on a Derek Kinzer double to the corner in right field, making the score 6-2.

The Trojans then extended its lead to six runs (8-2) after Chuck Weaver belted a double to the left center wall, scoring Derek Kinzer from third and Michael Nassar poked a single to right, scoring Chuck Weaver.

The Bulldogs pushed across two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the hole proved to be too deep as Taylor claimed the back end of the doubleheader 8-4.

Union was led offensively by Brian Mouton as the junior went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Ben Hartley (Lexington, Ky.) added a pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the seventh in the Bulldogs late rally.

With the loss, Union's 16-game winning streak comes to an end, leaving the record of 18 straight wins in 2007 intact.

The Bulldogs return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon to complete the three game series against Taylor University. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Jerry W. Carey Stadium.
