ST. CATHARINE, Ky. - Demetrius Davis accounted for three runs in helping No. 16 Union to a 5-4 victory over host St. Catharine (Ky.) Wednesday.

Davis (Marietta, Ga.) went 3-for-5 and scored three times. Brandon Hedrick (Corbin, Ky.) also had a solid game at the plate in going 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

The win was Union's third in a row, improving the Bulldogs' record to 9-6 overall. Union has won four of its last five games.

St. Catharine drops to 8-9 on the year.

The Patriots scored a run in the first, but Union took a 2-1 edge in the top of the third. In the bottom of the third, St. Catharine evened the score at 2-2.

The Bulldogs rallied for a pair of runs for a 4-2 lead in the fifth and added a run in the seventh for a 5-3 advantage.

St. Catharine pushed a run across in the eighth but could not get any closer as Union held on for the one-run victory.

Blaine Adams (Kansas City, Mo.) got the start and lasted 4 1/3 innings. Koby Hearn (Paris, Ky.) tossed the next 1 2/3 innings and got the win, upping his record to 2-2. Jason Parsons (Hamilton, Ohio) pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to record his third save of the season.

On the year, the Bulldog pitching staff have recorded five saves. Union posted only nine saves in 56 games last season.

Union returns home Friday and Saturday for a three-game Appalachian Athletic Conference series against Montreat (N.C.). Friday's nine-inning game is set for 2 p.m. with Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m.
