BARBOURVILLE, Ky.- The Bulldogs finished in a four-way tie in the final Appalachian Athletic Conference standings, notching itself as one of four programs to stake claim as the regular season champion.

For the Bulldogs, it's their first conference championship of any kind since the 1971-72 season.

Union needed a win of its own, which the Bulldogs handled topping Reinhardt College 59-54 and a UVA-Wise loss Saturday evening in order to claim a share of the championship. The basketball gods obliged, as the Cavaliers dropped its final conference contest, 85-69, to Bryan College.

Here is how the final AAC standings shook out: 1. Bluefield (15-12) 2. Union (18-12) 3. Bryan (18-9) 4. UVA-Wise (14-12) 5.Tennessee Wesleyan (13-15) 6. Reinhardt(16-11) 7. Milligan (10-20) 8. Virginia Intermont (3-27) 9. Montreat (3-26).

The top four teams all finished 11-5 in conference action, creating the log jam atop the standings. Union was slotted the second overall seed in the conference tournament because of the Bulldogs dropping both of its contests to Bluefield College in the regular season, but sweeping both Bryan and UVA-Wise.

The Bulldogs enter the conference tournament red hot, having won four games in a row and eight of its last nine contests.

Union will play host to Milligan College Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the AAC tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
