BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College senior Joey Waters and junior Marekus Smith have been selected as the Mid-South Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, the league announced Monday.

Union recorded its first win of the season, snapping an 11-game losing skid, with a 21-14 victory over visiting Cumberland (Tenn.) University Saturday.

Waters (McDonough, Ga.) passed for a career-high 358 yards (22 for 36) and three touchdowns during the Bulldogs victory over Cumberland. In addition, he became just the second player in program history to amass over 6,000 career passing yards (6,297). Waters also punted once for 34 yards, pinning CU on its own 5-yard line.

On the year, Waters has completed 139-of-231 passes for 1,633 yards and 15 touchdowns. This marks the second time Waters has earned this honor this season, having received it on Sept. 10.

Smith (Lithonia, Ga.) had a career-high 17 tackles (2.5 for loss) during the Bulldogs' seven point victory. Smith and his teammates held Cumberland to 257 yards of total offense, including just 24 yards on its final two possessions to seal the win.

For the season, Smith has 47 total tackles with 5.5 going for a loss of 15 yards. He has one sack, one interception and two fumble recoveries as well.

Union returns to action Saturday when it plays host to Campbellsville (Ky.) University at 1:30 p.m.
