BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College head coach Danny Fish got a jump on the rest of the field in assembling a squad for the 2011 campaign as he recently announced the additions of Hillary Leftrick and Falon Catalano.
"Getting two commitments with the abilities and talents of Hillary and Falon will give the Lady Bulldogs depth and experience in many different ways," said Fish. "I am very happy to have these two on board for 2011 and 2012 seasons."
Leftrick is a 5-foot-2 slapper from Shelbyville, Tenn., and plays both in the outfield and second base. She hit .340 at Motlow State Community College in the 2009 season and was an integral part of the MSCC's first-ever appearance in the JUCO World Series.
"Hillary may be the fastest player I have ever seen, and she has great instincts in the outfield," said Fish. "She is a very good student and will be ready play a big part in next year's squad."
Catalano is a 5-foot-10 pitcher and outfielder from Manchester, Tenn. Catalano spent her first collegiate season at Lipscomp University before transferring to Motlow State.
"Falon will be a complementary pitcher to (Abby) Sears and a big time bat to the middle of the order for the Lady Bulldogs in 2011," said Fish. "She is very athletic and she will be to roam the outfield when not toeing the rubber."
Union went 27-25 overall and 8-8 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference last season. The Lady Bulldogs also advanced to the AAC Tournament championship game.
The Lady Bulldogs will open the 2010 campaign Feb. 13 when it will play host to NCAA Division II Bellarmine (Ky.) University at 1 p.m.
