MONTREAT, N.C. - Senior guard Carley Blankenship netted only four points, but she scored the two most important points with 2.8 seconds to lift Union College to a 62-61 Appalachian Athletic Conference win over host Montreat (N.C.) College.

The win improved the Lady Bulldogs to 12-7 overall and 4-3 in league play, while the Lady Cavaliers dropped to 12-5 overall and 3-4 in the AAC. This was Montreat's first home loss, putting it at 5-1 in McAlister Gymnasium.

Union led 36-33 at the half, and Montreat fought back to take the lead late in the game despite shooting 33.3 percent (10-of-30 shots) in the second half. Yet, Blankenship (Lexington, Ky.) hit a jumper with 2.8 seconds left to give the Lady Bulldogs the 62-61 victory.

Montreat finished the game making 38.7 percent (24-fo-62 shots) from the field and missed 9-of-10 from 3-point range, including all six in the second half. Meanwhile, Union hit 43.4 perfect (23-of-53 shots) went 4-for-10 behind the arc.

Brooke Smith (Pineville, Ky.) paced Union with 23 points and seven rebounds, while Ashley Lunsford (Orlando, Ky.) helped out with 12 points and six boards.

For Montreat, Stephanie Morrison led the way with 12 point with Alicia Wallace, Chaecie Bullock and Anjelica Jackson each chipping in 10 points.

Union returns home Wednesday to play host to Reinhardt (Ga.) College in conference action. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
