BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Union College women’s soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss against the visitors from Asbury (Ky.) College on Tuesday in a contest between the NAIA Region XII foes.

After the first 85 minutes went scoreless, Asbury (5-8) got onto the scoreboard after a Union own goal. Asbury’s Miranda Wiley was credited for the score.

The Lady Bulldogs (5-5) took 11 shots while Asbury only attempted eight in the match and four of the Lady Bulldogs’ shots were on goal compared to Asbury’s two.

Union split the goalkeeping duties between Briann Bargo (Somerset, Ky.) and Brittany Puryear (Somerset, Ky.) with each playing a half. Bargo played the opening half and did not record a save. The second half was Puryear’s and she recorded one save. Asbury’s Maegan Rogers stopped all four shots from the Lady Bulldogs.

Juliana Filipe, Union’s head coach, commented on how hard the team played despite the final score and she was proud of how the team battled in the physical contest.

The Lady Bulldogs will return to action Thursday when Spalding (Ky.) University makes a trip Barbourville for a 2 p.m. match.
