MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Seniors Scotty Barnes and Armond Smith set a couple program records, representing Union College at the Middle Tennessee State University Christmas Invitational Saturday.

Barnes (Ewing, Va.) set the indoor track & field school record in the shot put with a throw of 43 feet, 3 inches, placing fifth in the event.

He also ran in the 55 Meter Dash, finishing 16th overall with time of 6.80 seconds. Senior Marekus Smith (Lithonia, Ga.) competed in the 55 Meter Dash as well and posted a time of 6.62 seconds to come in 13th overall.

Armond Smith (Stone Mountain, Ga.) set the program record for the 55 Meter Hurdles as he won the event with a time of 7.63 seconds, edging Western Kentucky University's Karlis Daube by 0.04 seconds. His time also qualified him for the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship Meet.

Smith also qualified for nationals in the 400 Meter Run with a time of 50.0 seconds to place second overall. Marekus Smith posted a time of 51.95 seconds to come in fifth.

Union will next compete at the Cedarville (Ohio) University Invitational on Jan. 15.
