HATTIESBURG, Miss. - No. 5 seed and host William Carey (Miss.) University battled rain, cold and a tenacious Union (Ky.) College squad as they advance to the sweet sixteen of the NAIA National Tournament defeating the Lady Bulldogs 1-0 Saturday at Crusader Field.

For the game, the Lady Crusaders outshot Union 19-6 but the Lady Bulldogs' Patricia Nardy (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was brilliant in goal. Nardy recorded eight saves on the evening. However Nardy was not invincible and in the 29th minute Gemma Metcalfe found GCAC offensive player of the year Jeana Erickson in close for the games only goal.

Jackie DeNova recorded five saves in the contest.

The Lady Crusaders (20-1-1 overall) will travel to Decatur, Ala., for the 2009 NAIA National Tournament beginning on November 30.

Union finishes the season 16-3-1 overall.
