KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Union College junior Eden Ellison was named a 2009 Daktronics-NAIA Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete, the NAIA announced Friday.

Ellison (Tamms, Ill.) is one of 254 women's cross country runners to receive the honor.

The announcement is made one day prior to the Men's and Women's Cross Country National Championships to be held at Fort Vancouver Historical Site in Vancouver, Wash. The women's race begins at 10:30 a.m. PST and the men's event is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. PST.

Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify.

Ellison is the first Lady Bulldog to earn the honor since Kandy Hubbard in 2007.
