BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Brooke Smith registered yet another double-double and Carley Blankenship netted a season-high 21 points in guiding Union College to a 102-85 Appalachian Athletic Conference victory over visiting UVa-Wise Wednesday.

Smith (Pineville, Ky.) poured in 27 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Meanwhile, Blankenship (Lexington, Ky.) went 10-for-11 at the foul line in scoring 21 to go along with her six assists.

The win improved the Lady Bulldogs to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in league play, while the Lady Cavs dropped to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the AAC.

Up 48-37 at the half, Union saw its lead shrink to 48-45 after UVa-Wise opened up the period with an 8-0 run. Union rebounded and slowly opened up a 69-53 lead with 12:13 remaining.

The Lady Cavs made another run, cutting the margin to 75-68 following a Charlotte Reasor bucket at the 6:50 mark. However, Union held firm and stretched the to 18 en route to the 102-85 win.

Poor free-throw shooting hindered UVa-Wise's chances as it made 20-of-37 (54.1 percent) at the line. Meanwhile, Union hit 77.8 percent (28-of-36) of its free throws.

After Smith and Blankenship, Capri Savage (Orofino, Idaho) paced Union with 16 points, while Kara Pile (Fairdale, Ky.) chipped in 10 points.

Amber Carter led UVa-Wise with 20 points with Ayla Young following with 16. Reasor added 11 points.

Union returns to action Saturday when it plays host to Bryan (Tenn.) College. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
