NEW ALBANY, Ind. - Union College struggled hitting its shots from the field as Mid-Continent (Ky.) University posted the 74-56 decision Saturday in the Joe B. and Denny Classic in New Albany, Ind.

The loss puts Union at 0-1 on the season, while Mid-Continent is 2-1 on the year.

The Classic is being held on the campus of Indiana University Southeast.

The Bulldogs hit only 32.3 percent from the field, making 20-of-62 shots from the field. Union struggled behind the arc as well in hitting 7-of-20 (35 percent) on 3-point attempts.

Meanwhile, the Cougars made 26-of-63 shots for a 41.3 shooting percentage.

Darrell Jackson (Jonesboro, Ark.) paced Union with 14 points and four assists, while Jerome Carmichael (Newport, Tenn.) chipped in 13 points and six rebounds. Payton Ponzer (Independence, Ky.) added 12 points.

For Mid-Continent, Kenny Thomas led all scorers with 21 points, and Chris Ferguson grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds.

Union returns to action Tuesday at Indiana University East at 7 p.m.
