MOBILE, Ala. - A penalty-kick goal in double overtime ended Union College's nine match winning streak to start 2009 as Spring Hill (Ala.) College's Abby Galen booted home a game winner to hand Union a 2-1 setback Friday.

The Lady Bulldogs went to 9-1 on the season while Spring Hill owns a 5-5-1 record after the match.

Galen's score came in the 107th minute.

Renata Peixoto (Brasilia, Brazil) evened the score at one all when she scored in the 71st minute. It was Union's first shot of the second half. She also became the ninth player to surpass 100 career points with the goal.

Lorie Pendergast put Spring Hill in front thanks to her goal in the 49th minute. The assist came from Sara Uptmor.

Making her first start of the season, Brittany Puryear (Somerset, Ky.) stopped 11 shots in goal for Union.

Union will remain in Alabama for a Saturday contest at No. 20 Auburn University Montgomery starting at 4 p.m.

Lady Bulldog Notes

  • For the second straight match, Union did not score a goal in the first half. The Lady Bulldogs had scored at least once in the opening 45 minutes in the other eight matches this season.
  • Since the 2005 season, Union has a 3-2-3 record in double-overtime matches with the other loss coming on Sept. 14, 2006, against Campbellsville (Ky.) University.
