BRISTOL, Va. - Union College posted a 4-1 win at Virginia Intermont College Tuesday in an Appalachian Athletic Conference contest for the Bulldogs' first win ever against Virginia Intermont.
The win improved the Bulldogs' record to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Union had a 0-5 record against Virginia Intermont up until 2006. Virginia Intermont went to 0-6 and 0-3 in the AAC.
Union scored in the fourth minute thanks to a Jonathan Sutton (Portsmouth, England) goal off a pass from Chris Riley (Cornwall, England).
The Bulldogs would have to wait until the second half before the second goal was scored after Chris Elliott (Isle of Wight, England) booted home a free kick. Elliott later provided an assist on a goal scored by Dan Johnson (Lancashire, England).
The final Union score was a Riley goal and the assist came from Eliott's free kick.
Virginia Intermont added a goal late.
Union head coach Tyler Brock commented on how well the bench play was Tuesday.
Next on Union's schedule is a home match with Georgetown (Ky.) College Saturday at 4 p.m.
- The four goals are the second most scored by Union this season.
- The game-winning goal was the first for Elliott.
- The last time Union scored four or more goals on the road was at Berea (Ky.) College Sept. 18, 2007. The Bulldogs won 4-0.
