BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - A pair of first-half goals proved too much for Union College to overcome Tuesday against No. 24 University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) in a 2-1 defeat at home.

Igor Petsch scored both goals for the Cumberlands. His first score came in the fourth minute then the eventual game winner in the 25th. Marc Miller provided the first assist while Pedro Costa was credited with the second assist.

Chris Elliot (Isle of Wight, England) cut the defecit in half thanks to his goal in the 52nd minute. He received the pass from Jonathan Sutton (Portsmouth, England).

After the match, Union went to 4-3 on the season while Cumberlands owns a 7-2 record.

Cumberlands held the advantage in shots as well, taking 22, nine on goal. All four of Union's shots were on goal.

Jonathan Shaw (Merseyside, England) recorded seven saves, which is a season high for the junior. Cumberlands' Dennis Kramer had three saves.

Union will host Milligan (Tenn.) College Thursday in an Appalachian Athletic Conference contest at 4 p.m. The match was originally scheduled for Saturday, but rain forced the schedule change.

  • Elliot's score was his fourth of the season which is tied for second most on the squad.
  • Shaw's previous season high in saves was five at Berea (Ky.) College on Sept. 16.
  • Union has a two-match losing streak.
