LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Union College women's bowling team finally competed as a complete squad Sunday and rolled its way to a fifth-place finish at the 2009 Thomas N. Burris Memorial Kentucky Collegiate Classic.

The Lady Bulldogs was fifth out of a total of eight teams.

"It was a pleasure to finally witness our Lady Bulldog program compete," said Union coach Matt Mahony. "I thought we did a great job in our first tournament in program history. Most of that credit goes to (assistant) coach (Jody) Fetterhoff and the girls' hard work and commitment in such a short amount of time."

The Pikeville (Ky.) College White team won the event with a pin fall of 7,286, while Bellarmine (Ky.) University Burgundy was second at 7,267. The Pikeville Orange and Black squads where third (7,134) and fourth (6,659), respectively, with Union rolling a 6,076 to take fifth.

Christy King (Hendersonville, Tenn.) placed 15th overall with a 166.4 average. She also notched a team-best, single-game high score of 193. Christen Havens (Gallatin, Tenn.) was 21st overall at 155.4 per game, while Haley McDowell (Lexington, Ky.) averaged 146.8 to place 25th. Kayleen Hiatt (Kettering, Ohio) and Ariel White (Tazewell, Tenn.) placed 27th (142.4 average) and 29th (138.6 average), respectively.

In all, there were 43 individual bowlers.

Union returns to action on Saturday at the Green River Classic in Campbellsville, Ky.
