BECKLEY, W.Va. - Union College put everyone into Tuesday's non-conference contest at Mountain State (W.Va.) University en route to a 13-0 win and seven different players scored at least once.

The win boosted Union's record to 4-0 on the season and Mountain State fell to 1-4.

Union posted six first-half goals and then added four more in the opening minutes of the second half.

Marcela Salum (Guatemala City, Guatemala) scored four times which marks a career high for the sophomore. The trio of Jenn Sckirl (Edmonton, Canada), Renata Peixoto (Brasilia, Brazil) and Stephanie Cagle (Independence, Ky.) all scored two goals apiece. Cagle and Peixoto also provided two assists each.

Jessica Courter (Alexandra, Ky.) scored her first collegiate goal while Katarina Sprunk (Port Charlotte, Fla.) and Chelsi Walls (Stanford, Ky.) also posted goals.

Union put all 18 players that traveled into the match and each player saw at least 35 minutes of playing time.

Patricia Nardy (Sao Paulo, Brazil) played the opening half in goal for Union before Brittany Puryear (Somerset, Ky.) stopped five shots in the second half.

Union opens the Appalachian Athletic Conference season Saturday when Tennessee Wesleyan College visits for a key contest. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.

Lady Bulldog Notes

  • Union won the 2008 meeting against Mountain State 8-0 which was also in Beckley.
  • The shutout was the third of the season and in comparison the 2008 squad posted nine.
  • The Lady Bulldogs have 36 goals scored so far in 2009 as Salum has nine to lead the team.
