BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Sophomore quarterback Mike Brinkley earned Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors after guiding No. 10 Union College to a 57-7 MSC East victory over No. 21 UVa-Wise, the league announced Monday.

The Bulldogs are 1-0 overall and 1-0 in league play.

Brinkley (Anthony, Fla.) completed 75 percent of his passes (18 of 24) for 245 yards and three touchdowns in the season-opening victory. He also ran for 39 yards on five carries.

The Bulldog signal-caller did a great job running the offense and managing the clock. Although he didn't play the entire game, Brinkley was a big reason why Union was able to maintain possession of the ball for 38 minutes and nine seconds.

Although only having played in 13 career games, Brinkley has thrown for three or more touchdowns in a game eight times and has 35 for his career, ranking him third in program history.

This marks the second time Brinkley earned MSC Offensive Player of the Week award, having received the honor once last season. He also was named the NAIA Offensive Player of the Week during the 2008 campaign.

Union returns to the field Thursday at NCAA Division I Southeastern Louisiana University at 8 p.m.
