BLUEFIELD, Va. - Junior Heather Jaques exploded for two goals and seven points in helping Union College to a 6-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference victory over host Bluefield (Va.) College Thursday.

"We played great as a team tonight," said Union coach Juliana Filipe. "We were able to really lock things down on defense and controlled the midfield. I'm really pleased with how we played tonight."

With the win, Union improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the AAC. Bluefield dropped to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in league play.

It took a little while, but Reneta Peixoto (Brasilia, Brazil) finally got the Lady Bulldog scoring attack rolling when she scored in the 27th minute. Union tacked on a second goal in taking a 2-0 halftime lead.

The Lady Bulldogs reeled off four second-half goals en route to the 6-0 shutout.

Jaques (Manitoba, Canada) had two goals and three assists in the win, while Peixoto had two goals. Ashley Hall (Hazard, Ky.) scored twice, giving her six tallies on the year and stretching her scoring streak to five games.

Amanda Weber (Ontario, Canada) and Amy Vallandingham (Corinth, Ky.) helped out with an assist apiece.

Filipe noted she was especially pleased with the play of defenders Ashleigh Mensch (Elizabethtown, Ky.) and Karla Goncalves (Sao Paulo, Brazil).

Briann Bargo (Somerset, Ky.) recorded two saves in goal.

Union returns home Saturday to play host to Covenant (Ga.) College in another Appalachian Athletic Conference showdown. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
