KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Union College found out the path in the 2009 NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship and the road begins with a contest against Xavier (La.) University Tuesday, in Mobile, Ala.

Union and Xavier met earlier this season, April 11, with Xavier winning 5-0 in a match played in Rome, Ga. At the time, Union was ranked 22nd while Xavier was 16th. The Lady Bulldogs were playing with five players in the contest.

The Lady Bulldogs went 13-3 leading up to the nationals with the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships. Union did not drop a match against conference foes in 2009.

Xavier owns an 18-6 record as the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference champions.

Last year Union won in the opening round of the NAIA National Championship before losing in the Round of 16.

The winner moves on to play No. 5 Savannah College of Art and Design Wednesday.

The other seven quarterfinal contests are scheduled for Wednesday as well followed by semifinals Thursday. The 2009 national champion will be crowned Friday.

The championship will be contested at the Mobile Tennis Center for the sixth straight year.
