BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College wraps up the regular season Saturday when No. 24 King (Tenn.) College visits for an important Appalachian Athletic Conference contest.

The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start as Union will honor two seniors, Ryne Bretz (Carlisle, Ky.) and Mike Perdue (Walton, Ky.)

Union enters the game owning fourth place in the conference standings. A Bulldog win and a Tennessee Wesleyan loss at Milligan (Tenn.) College means Union is the third seed for the AAC Tournament next week. A Tennessee Wesleyan win or Union loss means the Bulldogs enter post-season play as the No. 4 seed.

The conference finish will be the highest by a Union squad since the 2005-06 runner-up finish behind Montreat (N.C.) College. The Bulldogs were the No. 7 seed last season and a No. 6 seed in 2007.

The Bulldogs own a 10-7 AAC record with an overall mark of 14-13. King will enter Robsion Arena with a 13-4 conference record and an overall record of 20-7.

Union is coming off a 74-61 win at Montreat in which James Johnson (Lexington, Ky.) scored a game-high 15 points. Three other Bulldogs scored in double-digits including a career-high 13 points from Anthony Coote (Georgetown, Ky.)

Beau Brown (Athens, Tenn.) finished the Montreat game with 10 points giving the junior 20 double-digit scoring efforts this season. He leads the team with a 13.1 scoring average. Brown has been credited with 50 steals this season, the most by any Union player.

Johnson owns a 10.9 points per game average.

Michael Hester (Independence, Ky.) has a total of 111 assists this season. He is the first Bulldog to record over 100 assists in a season since the 2002-03 season and D.J. Washington's 137 assists over 34 games.

The Bulldogs only have 51 blocks this season. Union has blocked over 100 shots in every season since the 2004-05 season. During that season the Bulldogs recorded 71 blocks.

Union's home conference record currently stands at 4-4. The Bulldogs won the two non-conference games inside Robsion Arena over the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) and Alice Lloyd (Ky.) College.

Once again Wednesday Union held an opponent to under 70 points and the Bulldogs own a 9-1 record when the opponent scores fewer than 70. On the other side, Union is 5-12 when the foe scores more than 70.

When Union plays on a Saturday, the Bulldogs are 7-3.

Despite 35 points from Kyle Savely, King lost 86-82 to Tennessee Wesleyan. Savely went 12-for-25 from the field and he dished seven assists. Ben Bosse chipped in 14 points.

Savely averages 20.6 points per game which ranks 14th among NAIA Division II players and second in the conference. He also leads the team with 7.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game. Mark Dockery contributes 13.8 points per game while Bosse owns a 12.3 scoring average.

King dishes out 21.3 assists per contest to lead the country. The Tornado knocks down 9.0 3-pointers per game to rank sixth nationally.

The Tornado is the second-highest scoring team in the league with 79.9 points per contest. The King defense holds opponents to 71.1.

When the two met the first time in Bristol, King led from the early going. Union rallied but fell short 80-69 on Jan. 21. Demus led the charge with 17 points while Brown chipped in 16 points.

Savely went off for 34 points for the Tornado. Dockery finished with 16 points.

The AAC series history has not been kind to Union. The Bulldogs own a 2-11 record versus King, the fewest wins against any of the nine conference foe. In the previous six seasons, the series has not been split. Union took both games from King during the 2005-06 season which was the last time the Bulldogs won at least 10 conference games.

When it comes to next week's AAC Tournament to be played at King, the only four seeds that are known are the top two and the last two. No. 7 Bluefield captured the regular-season title last week and King owns the second seed. Covenant (Ga.) College has the tenth seed and Virginia Intermont College is in at ninth. The other six seeds will be determined after play on Saturday.
