KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Union College freshmen Mike Brinkley and Jacob Appleby have added to their résumés as they have been named the NAIA Football Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, the NAIA announced Monday.

The duo helped No. 18 Union to a 37-34 Mid-South Conference East victory at then-No. 10 UVa-Wise Saturday. The Bulldogs are now 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the MSC East.

Brinkley (Anthony, Fla.) recorded his first 300-yard passing game of the season as he completed 17-of-26 passes for 329 yards and four touchdowns. The scoring passes went for distances of 40, 13, 64 and 62 yards. Brinkley has thrown for three or more touchdowns in six games this season, including the last three.

On the season, the 6-foot-1, 161-pound quarterback has thrown for 1,972 yards and a school-record 27 touchdowns on 147-of-244 passing.

Appleby (Harvest, Ala.) had a perfect day in going 3-for-3 on field goals and 4-of-4 on PATs to account for 13 points. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound place-kicker booted the game-winning field goal from 21 yards out with 12 seconds remaining. He also connected on field goals from 27 and 49 yards with the latter setting the school record for longest field goal made.

For the season, Appleby has made 9-of-11 field goals and is 38-for-39 on PATs, tying the school record for most PATs made in a season. He leads the team in scoring with 65 points.

Union trailed UVa-Wise 27-10 midway through the second quarter before rallying to cut the margin to 27-24 at the half. The Bulldogs outscored the Cavaliers 13-7 in the second half en route to the 37-34 victory.

On Saturday, Union will play host to Campbellsville (Ky.) University in its final MSC East game of the year. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m.
