BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union College came from behind for a 3-2 win in a home Appalachian Athletic Conference contest against Montreat (N.C.) College Tuesday.

Union dropped the first set 25-22 before winning the second 25-15. Montreat regained the lead with a 25-9 third-set win. The Lady Bulldogs forced a fifth set with a 25-18 decision in the fourth. The home-standing Lady Bulldogs rallied in the final set for a 15-13 win.

With the win, Union improved to 19-8 overall and 14-3 in the conference. It was also the first win of the season when losing the first set. The Lady Bulldogs had lost the previous six matches when dropping the opening set.

Montreat moved to 9-6 in the conference and 14-15 overall after the match.

Stephanie Pateman (Weyburn, Canada) accounted for a match-high 13 kills. Pateman became the first Lady Bulldog with 1,600 kills in her career. She currently has 1,607 over her four years.

Monica Moreland (Louisville, Ky.) recorded her 13th double-double of the season with 34 assists and 15 digs. The sophomore also served two aces.

Christina Prindle (Florence, Ky.) contributed 15 digs. Autumn Combs (Florence, Ky.) finished the match with five total blocks and eight kills.

Next on the schedule for Union is a trip to play King (Tenn.) College, the conference leaders. The match is scheduled for Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. start.

  • Union now owns a 12-2 record against Montreat in regular-season matches since joining the AAC in 2002.
